Many Varieties of Sage at Latvia’s “Artisan Producer of the Year” Farm
The project’s partner in Latvia, the Biedrība Latgales Kulinārā mantojuma Centrs, has played a prominent role for many years in preserving traditional knowledge of medicinal herbs and gastronomy, as well as passing it on in a modern and practical way. Their work is particularly valuable because they do not treat tradition as something belonging only to museums, but rather as living knowledge that can still be applied in everyday life.
The center also works closely with the Z/S “Kurmīši” farm, which was awarded the title of “Artisan Producer of the Year 2025” in Latvia this year. Its owner, Ivars Geiba, is a well-known and highly respected expert in Latvian herbal culture. His decades of experience in medicinal plant cultivation, processing, and traditional herbal knowledge are considered exceptional not only in Latvia, but are also noteworthy internationally.
In our project, Ivars contributes as an expert, presenting – among other topics – the world of sage varieties, their traditional uses, unique characteristics, and practical applications.
