Mint or Lemon Balm? Discover Their Unique Character

Mint and lemon balm belong to the same plant family, and at first glance they can easily be confused. Their leaves are both fresh green, beautifully textured, and full of aroma. But if you slow down and take a closer look, you will soon notice that each plant has its own character.

Look first at the shape of the leaves. Mint often has slightly darker, more pointed leaves with a stronger texture, while lemon balm tends to have softer, rounder leaves with a lighter green colour. Their scent can also tell you a lot. Mint usually feels cool, fresh, and refreshing, while lemon balm carries gentle citrus notes that many people immediately recognise.

The way they grow, the small details of their flowers, and even how the leaves feel between your fingers can help reveal which plant you are looking at. Sometimes recognising herbs is simply about learning to notice small differences – and once you do, nature starts telling its own stories much more clearly.
