When Nature Became a Place of Refuge

One of the most touching stories shared during the workshop came from a mother who spoke about her son’s struggle with severe anxiety and panic attacks. The family went through many difficult periods before they gradually began spending more and more time together in nature.

Today, the connection between nature and mental health is a well-researched area of science. Many studies suggest that spending time in natural environments may help reduce stress levels, improve mood, support better sleep, and aid the recovery of the nervous system.

The beach, the forest, or even a quiet garden is not “medicine,” yet many people say these places help them feel calmer, safer, and more emotionally balanced.

This story reminds us that health is not only about the body. Our relationships, our surroundings, and our emotional wellbeing also play an important role in how we feel.
